KAR animals are kept in foster care from intake until adoption. For the majority of our animals that time is spent within one home, where the animal can get accustomed to family life. Animals are only euthanized in cases of severe illness or aggression.
We are an all-volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens from Southwest Michigan pounds and adopting them into responsible homes. Since our founding in May 2002, the SPCA of Southwest Michigan has saved more than 11,000 pets – the vast majority from 10 different Animal Control facilities across Southwest and south central Michigan.
We are a non-profit animal welfare group committed to the rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption of at-risk pets from pound facilities. We rescue dogs and cats from everywhere in Michigan — and anywhere else there is a cat or dog in need. With our rescue shelter and foster homes, we have between 75 and 100 dogs and puppies and between 60 and 80 cats and kittens in our care at any time.
Adopt a Friend for Life is dedicated to rescuing adoptable stray, abandoned and homeless cats and dogs. AFL offers an alternative to animal control shelters by housing the animals in foster homes until they can be placed for adoption into loving, permanent homes. We are committed to reducing pet overpopulation by providing 100% spay/neuter for animals in our care and strive to build lifelong friendships that will enrich the human-animal bond.
